Day 1 | Ichinosawa ~ Jonengoya Lodge | 4hr 40min |
Day 2 | Jonengoya Lodge ~ Mt. Jonendake ~ Mt. Chogatake ~ Chogatake Hyutte Lodge | 5hr 25min |
Day 3 | Chogatake Hyutte Lodge ~ Mitsumata | 3hr 10min |
This three day hike connects two popular mountains of the Northern Japan Alps - the majestic pyramid shaped Mt. Jonendake and Mt. Chogatake, a graceful mountain with magnificent views.
On the first day, start at the trailhead at Ichinosawa and proceed along the long and relatively flat trail through the valley. After leaving the valley, climb up the steep trail. Once you pass Jonen-pass you will arrive at Jonengoya Lodge, your lodge for the first night. The second day begins with a very steep ascent along a path that zigzags up the mountain towards the summit of Mt. Jonendake. From the summit, there will be a large descent followed by a hike across an undulating ridgeline with beautiful views. Pass Cho-Yari, Yokoo Fork, and Meiso-no-oka to reach Chogatake Hyutte Lodge. On day three, make your way to the summit of Mt. Chogatake. To descend, walk along the trail closest to the tent sites and then take the trail that heads down towards Mitsumata.
